cable modem green light not staying lit

Does this mean that I set up something wrong (just got cox internet service) or is it an issue with cox? they said the account is active, but is it maybe an issue with a filter on the main cox cable "green box" outside of the home?

Don't sweat it.
It's weird, but everyone's does.
As long as it's solid on cable, it should be ok.

Its not on solid green, havent gotten it to do so yet.
Havent got a connection to the internet yet. Power light is on, PC light is on, Cable light is off. I just wanted to make sure its a definite problem with cox removing a possible filter, before I have them charge me $100 for coming to the house and fixing something I did wrong possibly.

Before you get a truckroll, call support.
They might see or know something and it's a lot cheaper.

But if that's who you called, double check the connections and all. Was it coax you supplied or them?

Just used the existin coax for the cable tv. I used the splitter that cox supplied with startup kit. Maybe its an issue with existing coax being old? I spoke to a couple of technicians, one of which says cant tell till someone comes by to check, another says that theyve experienced new setups not working because of a filter they need to remove from main green box outside of the house. That filter i guess will cause me not to get uploads i think?

Possible.
But if it is a filter outside, you shouldn't be charged for it. I don't imagine they want anyone messing in those boxes, lol.

I'd get a new piece of coax too. It's not expensive. All it takes is a little damage to cause a world of hurt.

It Could Be anything from the the Coax, filter, or a problem with the Account. I had this problem about a week after Cox intalled it here.
1. make sure you have properly registered the account and MAC address and serial of the Modem.
2. Try Plugging the modem directly into the wall without the splitter.
3. Check to see if the Coax is RG6

Thx anonymous22.

I did try directly w/o splitter, same result.

Ill check on the type of coax....how can you tell?

The cable modem is registered, Im pretty sure.

Also make sure it is RG6 and NOT RG59 Coax (Like Anon said). Filters should not be preventing your modem from synching up to the network. Although it seems anything is possible these days. How is your TV picture? Any "snow" etc? If you rule all of this out then I'm certain it's a problem past your "green box" in which a cable tech will need to resolve. Good luck!!

Problem is resolved:

There were 2 filters total that had to be removed. The first one was at the telephone pole, which was removed sometime during the week, the other was at the side of the house where the main cable comes from. Opened up a panel on the side of the house, removed a cylinder looking filter.

All is good now.

Yes, it looks very similar to that high pass filter shown on your link. Just surprised that they didnt check for that earlier.

Great...Guess that explains when I had the "competitions" service they did exactly the same thing...removed the filters. At the time it gave me the expanded for the price of the basic.

At the time I had a very knowledgable (but upset) tech who had dealt with a dozen problems all "contractor/installer" created. Can't say I blame him either.
