and second in command of Troop Vermont State Police in Rutland is the man who composes the daily duty roster which accounts for the 10 corporals and troopers who work out of the Rutland barracks Although he is only 48 Snow has been stationed in Rutland longer than any other state law enforcement officer The sergeant was born in Swanton April 21 1916 A Swanton High School graduate he entered the Navy in 1941 During World War II he was stationed with the Amphibious Ferry Command in St Louis and also saw duty with the Shore Patrol in San Fran cisco Snow applied for a position with the Motor Vehicle Department when he was 22 Seven years later after the war he followed up his application with a trip to Montpelier and within the following three days he was appointed a motor vehicle inspector and ordered to report to the Rutland barracks where he was commanded by Inspector Ray Smith The Rutland headquarters in 1945 Snow recalled was located where the Killington Motors garage is now and only three men were stationed there In December of 1945 Snow was married to a Swanton lass Miss Verona Medor During his years as an inspector Snow was sent on two occasions to the Middlebury district where he assumed temporary duty for a one or two-week period In 1947 Snow joined the Vermont State Police and was ordered to remain in Rutland where he was under the command of Sgt Kenneth Fletch er who is now a field captain working out of Redstone Headquarters in Montpelier Except for terms of about two months temporary duty in St Johnsbury and then in White River Junction Snow has con tinued to work out of the Rutland barracks as a state trooper for the past 16 years In 1948 Cpl Albert Christie took over as commander of Troop After a promotion to corporal in 1949 Snow was designated second in command of the Rutland headquarters In 1954 Snow received a promotion to sergeant A graduate of the standard one-week course of the Harvard Associates in Police Science I enjoy
