What is the meaning of "The trick is to preemptively kidnap the person who picks you up so they never have a chance to kidnap you. Checkmate."? - Question about English (US) (2024)

Table of Contents
Lol. This is saying if someone is going to kidnap you, you can get out of it by kidnapping them first. "Preemptively" is to plan or think about ahead of time. Kidnap is to force a person to come with you against their will, and checkmate is from chess, I believe the word is roughly the same in Japanese. This is just a little joke. 😂 That's a funny answer. Maybe he meant since you're picking up a hitchhiker you could be "kidnapping" them so they can't hurt you? And yes, hitchhiking in America is pretty dangerous. Is it not dangerous in Japan? It would be nice to travel all around like you plan but try to do it on busses or something like that 😊 People tend to prey on hitchhikers since it's easy for them to take them somewhere to hurt them, you're trapped in a car with them. People are just crazy 😕 Please do. This type of person would be quicker to do something bad to a foreigner, they know you're here alone so it would take longer for people to realize you're missing, compared to the family noticing because the person doesn't come home that night. I know bad things happen but maybe I just watch too much TV 😂 Either way be careful and I hope when you get the chance for your trip that you have an amazing experience. It's pretty safe as long as there are people around. Empty places at night can be dangerous but if you're out in the day you shouldn't have any problems If there are a lot of people around and it's well lit it's pretty safe 😊 No problem 😊 References
