Devil's Pass | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Noel Murray The Dissolve Harlan's film -- written by Vikram Weet -- is a routine low-budget genre picture, with blandly attractive young actors overmatched by the freakiness lurking in the wilderness. Rated: 2/5 Aug 26, 2013 Full Review Devil's Pass | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Scott Foundas Variety Made with just enough craft that, were you to stumble upon it late at night during a bout of insomnia, you wouldn't mind watching through to the end. Aug 23, 2013 Full Review Devil's Pass | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Miriam Bale New York Times The film is ridiculous and laugh-out-loud funny, though it's sometimes hard to tell if this is intentional or not. Either way, it remains riveting because of its effective tropes. Rated: 2/5 Aug 22, 2013 Full Review Devil's Pass | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh The Dyatlov Pass Incident is one of the more fascinating events in the world of true crime, and while the story ultimately fails to bring any interesting angles to the mystery, the lack of competing storylines center around the event brings some appeal. Korra N A found footage film that takes a real-life event and offers a possible explanation as to how and why it happened. It's not seamless in blending genres, but it's still interesting, intriguing and original in its exploration, and it does deserve more credit for taking a pretty big swath with the third act that's also rooted in history. It's not for everyone, but it's still good whether you like it or not. My biggest complaint is some of the visual effects could've been handled better. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/20/24 Full Review saige m It was really good to start but the ending felt so weird and out of place. like they forgot what the movie was about. looked like a video game cutscene. stupid. >:( Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Nina E It is a typical found footage. The protagonists go party the night before the journey is always a must for every found footage trip. Like the Chernobyl Diaries, we encounter some likeable guides from that part of the world. Eventually, the group goes into territory that the guides won't venture to. They are warned by a now aging survivor of the 1959 Dystlov tragedy to STAY AWAY! They push forward anyways. We are not dealing with the best and brightest of Oregon U but they are fun to watch and I recommend this for a fun time. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review IrateTyrant C Found footage based on true events"Devil's Pass" or "The Dyatlov Pass Incident" was full of ambition, brimming over its fill with ideas and twists. I completely enjoyed this movie, but think it was a little too far-fetched for its own good. Some parts were startling, like background menaces during the scenes where I found myself watching on for more "easter eggs." The ending of the movie became rampantly action-packed which was sort of disappointing. Where I wanted more jump-scares, the movie passed with tensity and bleak atmospheres. Based on true events, I felt more should have been added to the desperation of the survival elements through the mountain climbing parts of the film. Although it laid flat and did its job, I think more could have been emphasized about the harsh climate conditions of the mountains, and more could easily have been added to the cinematography. Specializing on effects with the threats of the movie worked well but should not have marginalized the scenery which was downplayed. I really liked this movie and would have liked even more to have given it a much better review. Through the forced portions of the found footage aspects, it lost points. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Mallory The Dyatlov Pass Incident is a fascinating mystery, and this could have been a good film had it not turned goofy toward the end. I personally enjoyed the build up far more, but even then this is another mediocre entry in the found-footage genre. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/23 Full Review prawnda s the film is pretty good to start in terms of found footage quality, but the ending is ruined by underwhelming cgi which would have been much better performed by real humans and/or prosthetics. conceptually, the ending is quite cool if it implied what i think it did.
